Are you patriotic? What does being patriotic mean to you?
“Patriotism, to me, is the sacred dance of serving the divine moments, where devotion to Lord Shiva intertwines with selfless service to humanity, echoing the rhythm of the cosmos.”
– Krishna Moorthy M
As a devout follower of Lord Shiva, patriotism takes on a unique and profound meaning in my life. While many may associate patriotism with love for one’s country, for me, it transcends geographical boundaries and encompasses a devotion to something far greater: the divine.
I am a Patriot
To me, patriotism is not merely waving flags or singing anthems; it’s a deep-rooted reverence for the spiritual essence that permeates all existence. As a patriot, my allegiance lies with the cosmic order, the eternal dance of creation and destruction symbolized by Lord Shiva.
Being Patriotic is Being Devoted to Lord Shiva
In the sacred texts and teachings of Hinduism, Lord Shiva represents the epitome of detachment, wisdom, and transformation. Being patriotic, therefore, means embodying these qualities in my daily life, striving to emulate the divine attributes of compassion, justice, and integrity.
Serving Deities in the Correct Moment (Thithis) is Serving the People and Thereby the Nation
Central to my understanding of patriotism is the concept of seva, or selfless service. In the Hindu tradition, serving the deities at auspicious moments, known as Thithis, is not just a religious practice but a way of serving the community and, by extension, the nation. By participating in rituals and ceremonies that honor the divine, I believe I am contributing to the collective welfare and spiritual upliftment of society.
Servitude is Defined as Serving the Moments (Thithis) of Each Year
In essence, my patriotism is defined by my commitment to aligning my actions with the rhythms of time and nature, honoring the sacred cycles that govern the universe. By observing the Thithis and engaging in acts of worship and devotion, I am acknowledging my interconnectedness with all beings and fulfilling my duty as a citizen of the cosmos.
Serve Oneself with Truth and Purity
Above all, true patriotism begins with self-reflection and inner purification. By cultivating virtues such as truthfulness, humility, and selflessness, I strive to purify my heart and mind, knowing that only through personal transformation can I contribute positively to the world around me.
